I would like to find someplace local to hold folk dances and house this library as well as establish some sort of scholarship to encourage the perpetuation of American folk dancing, contra dancing specifically. I am thinking Redmen's Hall in San Pedro.
The first contra dance I attended was the Potluck Saturday after Thankgiving's Day Dance in 2000. John Rogers was calling. Lynn Rickets was in attendance. I met more than one of my best friends in life at that dance.
It may not be much but it is a start. I also have a box of local Southern California dance newsletters, fliers, and nicknacks that a retired friend at work gave me that belonged to his parents from the mid-20th Century before I was dancing. Now that these resources are assembled, I would like to keep them together and make them available when I am gone.
